PASSION EXISTS TO SEE A GENERATION LEVERAGE THEIR LIVES FOR WHAT MATTERS MOST. To live in such a way that their journey on earth counts for what is most important in the end. For us at Passion, that’s the fame of the One who rescues and restores and the privilege we have to amplify His name in everything we do.

Episode Transcription

My name is Brett Younker, and welcome to a new podcast called Jesus Songs, a podcast about church music.

I love to worship. I can remember in my early days growing up in church, going to summer camps, and experiencing the presence and power of God in a very real way. When we were singing, Something Inside of Me just came to life.

Music has always been a way in which I have connected with Jesus. I live outside Atlanta, Georgia, with my wife, Aynsley, and our three kids, Anna Jean, Shiloh, and Johnny, and our dog Sgt Pepper. I'm a big Beatles fan. Over the last ten years,

I've had the privilege of leading worship with passion, music, and writing songs for our church and our movement. Each year, passion gathers thousands of 18 to 25-year-olds to live for what matters most the glory of God. In our gatherings, music has played a significant role to unify our hearts and help us express our love and devotion to God. The church has always had a song to sing for every moment in every season; we've been given songs of hope, songs of victory, songs of redemption and healing, songs of identity, and songs of defiant faith that help us transcend the moment we are in to experience the love of God. These songs of worship are an offering to Jesus, and they help shape and form us into people that reflect the light and life of Christ to the world around us.

The journey of every song is unique. It involves gifted writers, musicians, producers, teams, and communities that help propel the song and its message to the world. Every now and then, there are songs that move from being a personal song of a single artist or a certain community's expression of faith to a song that belongs to everybody, to the whole church. These songs have become mile markers of our faith journey. Somehow, these songs go beyond the talent of the artist or a well-thought-out marketing plan and seem to be carried by the Holy Spirit further than anyone could have imagined. In this podcast, we want to explore the journey of songs that have touched our lives and opened our eyes to see and experience Jesus.

We want to hear from the people who leverage their life and gifting to be a part of something that was bigger than themselves. One of my favorite things about getting together with other songwriters is the first half hour or so before we write. We usually talk about life, and what God is doing in and around us, and usually, those conversations lead to something special. There's no formula, but there's always a story about how God can take what's in our hearts, in our hands, and multiply it so others can experience his love and grace. Maybe you lead, worship, or write songs, or maybe you're here, and you just love to worship God. I hope through these conversations, you are inspired to leverage what gifts you have in what's in your hands and offer your life to God as your song of worship. I'm so looking forward to where God takes us.

Thanks for listening to Jesus songs.
